The search for “my camp” begins…….

Since 1985 I have been helping people from all over the mid-west find and purchase their dream property through our real estate company, Heritage House Realty, PC. You cannot imagine how many different parcels of land that I walked during the searching and marketing process.

Being an avid hunter who always hunted public land, I dreamt that someday I would own a hunk of land I could call “my camp”

In the spring of 2004 we finally found 87 acres we now call “camp”. I decided that I was gong to take a piece of land that only jack pine, sweet fern and blueberries called home and turn it into a respectable place to hunt whitetails. That is when the work started…….. and some big headaches, big expenses and tired muscles followed.

If there was a book or magazine that discussed improving habitat for the whitetail, I bought it, read it and re-read until I had the confidence to get started. I grabbed the chain saw and quad and I carved out my first food plot in the sands of Crawford County. I actually had some early success and I started seeing a bunch of critters hanging around the plots. I also had some early failures that cost me a boat load of money, time I didn’t have and some extreme frustration.

Now just a short 4 years later, we have some of the prettiest plots and habitat you could imagine with all kinds of critters utilizing the benefits. We regularly see whitetail bucks and does that would make any hunter proud. Turkeys, cottontails and grouse abound where before, to even see one was a treat. Song birds, raptors, waterfowl, predators, woodcock, fox and black squirrels are sighted and enjoyed every time we are at camp. The effort to improve our deer hunting opportunities turned into a utopia for all kinds of wildlife. And to think we started with sand and jack pines!

Now we are offering consulting services and habitat improvement and development to several counties in Northeast Michigan. Though we will never claim to be the “experts” and we will never guarantee that you will harvest a trophy buck, we can help you turn your land into a year round or autumn Mecca for the wildlife in your area. We have the tools, the knowledge, and the supplies. We can simply consult and help you plan or we can do the actual labor. When you get a chance, email me at jeff@plotsofwildlife.com or give me a call at 989-329-1092 and we will start the conversation on how you can have your dream property also become your critter’s dream property!
